Prosper ISD embarked on new territory when we decided to build our first new prototypical elementary school, Folsom Elementary School. Above all else, the District wanted Folsom to set the bar for an environment that would support and enhance the learning that would take place within.
And ‘Set the Bar’ it did! John A. Baker Elementary School leans on the success of its predecessor. The District finds new growth within the McKinney city limits on the far east edge of the school district. This is where Baker Elementary resides, nestled among a sea of aged oak trees and rolling landscape.
A design team consisting of Mr. Drew Watkins, the Principal of Folsom Elementary, Mr. Jim Toney, Pogue Construction, and Huckabee met after the completion of Folsom in late August 2005. This important meeting was to determine a course of action for making the new elementary school better than before. A ‘Lessons Learned’ meeting was held to ensure that all design and construction issues that were discovered over the previous construction project were incorporated into the new school plan. The positive things refined and the negative things discarded; a true recipe for success!!!
Baker Elementary serves Grades Pre-K - 5 with a capacity for 900 students.
