To respond to the rapid growth Prosper ISD is facing, the District decided to convert the existing high school into a middle school by renovating and adding onto the facility. The project includes expanding and renovating the existing high school until the student population growth in the district dictates the need to convert it to a middle school. The approximate time of the project is estimated to be 3-5 years.

The current capacity of the existing high school is 425-450 students; the newly designed facility houses 1,000 students and encompasses approximately 147,200 square feet in area. The new addition appends to the west side of the existing high school. Coleman Road, an existing divided two-lane road continues to serve the campus. Existing utilities are being used, and new utilities were added to accommodate the new additions.

The objective of the design committee was to complement the existing structure while maximizing the square footage allocated in the program. The administration is located in the center of the building, providing visibility of the surrounding corridors. Two wings extend to the south and to the northwest of the administration area, each consisting of nine core classrooms, two science labs, two computer labs, two elective classrooms, restroom facilities, storage and locker areas-all based on a “double-loaded” corridor system.

Each educational wing is self contained for each grade level with approximately 325 students per wing. Additional elements in the design include renovation and expansion of the existing library, a new choir/lecture room and a proposed exterior covered waiting area south of the cafeteria with a hard surface play area.
